Inspiration
Here I am standing.
 I’m one girl,
 One voice,
 Two X’s without a Y.

 And here I am writing.
I’m writing for you and me,
 For the people still unseen.
 I’m writing because I have a voice.

 Yet here I am thinking.
I’m thinking about the slopes of today,
And the rough terrain of tomorrow.
I’m thinking because it’s within my rights.

 Undoubtedly, here I am dreaming.
 Of future aspirations,
 And admiration yet unnoticed.
I’m dreaming because there’s a future beyond this present -day fixation.

 Silently, here I am breathing.
I breathe for the life all around me.
I breathe because my lungs propel me to do so.
I breathe because I have a voice that needs hearing, rights that are oh so endearing, and dreams that need space for its clearing.

I am here standing because I choose not to sit.
Because I want my voice to be heard every bit.
Because I have rights that deem it fit.
Because I have dreams that need to be lit.
I am here, as a girl, standing outside of this darkened pit,
Hoping that you’ll find your own voice and your own reason to stand.
“If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything. “
