you’re bathed in the dying light of the day
cloaked in embers of the fading fire
and
oh, darling
don’t you wish
the day was

because the night is dark and cold
silent and unforgiving
it’s easy to lose yourself
in the field of lies
it’s easy to drown
in the river of broken promises
it’s easy to fall
from the inky sky of screams.

you’re so naive,
little creature of the sun
thinking you could find you way
through this labyrinth of despair.

this world is all too large
for someone like you
someone who doesn’t belong here
someone who wandered in by accident
someone who doesn’t understand

that this is the big world and
they’re a small person and
they’re not ready for reality.
