If You Could Still Be Here
One day changes everything
It took you away from me
It separated skies between us
Worlds away
And now there are fragile scars wrapped around my heart
So can I tether a string to the stars?
I’ll climb up and search every corner of heaven
To find where you are
You give me light so I can stand up to the walls of fear
Knocking them down they fall, their high tiers
And though I know you live in the highest kingdom of all
I close my eyes and wish you could still be here
If you could still be here
We’d laugh about the things that make my heart ache
And they’d disappear
And you’d patch up all the holes in my life
And maybe this time
I won’t be so empty
I wish I could erase that day when
All the threads frayed
And I submerged all The Great Lakes
With my tears
For the first time in my ten years of life
I knew
What it was like to lose
And have your heart ripped out of you
Seven years go by like sand slipping through your hands
But going back to that day
It seems like yesterday
When everything changed before me
And heaven took you away.
