The Basic Human Emotions
Love

Two pairs of eyes – one devilish green, one striking blue,
Gaze into each other’s depths, thinking,
I wonder if behind the darkness of the pupil my face resonates,
Occupying the dusty attics of a mind.

The blue eyes melt in adoration for his essence,
Though they mirror stormy seas. Blue looks ahead,
Nonetheless, and sees a field of green
 That stretches out for eternity
Unlike the past it has known.

The green eyes pay no mind to the ceaseless blah-blah
Just south of blue. No, they are mesmerized – for now, in that moment,
Her blue eyes are too blue
And her blond hair is too blond
And her tan skin is too tan
 To care about anything else.

So they sink into a dark abyss, unafraid,
For Blue and Green are now one,
 Eyes locked,
 Lips moist,
Not looking down below or up above, but at each other –
 Hopelessly in love.

 Hate

She prays for a sign to pardon her sins,
But is too impatient to wait and see
The truth. So she makes one up for herself,
And mistakes the brewing storm as a clearing sky.

She claims she has it all under control,
“It’s a weapon I know just how to aim!”
She swears it’s not part of her, it is her slave,
Nonetheless, she’s the one shackled in chains.

She unsheathes her sword to threaten the wind,
She slashes and cuts and destroys,
The breeze feels solely the tickle of love,
Hence the rapier spins to point straight at her.

So it chokes me, it hurts me, it eats me within,
Why am I bleeding when I meant to hurt you?
Oh God – help me help me HELP ME! Don’t you care?
‘Til the red ambrosia feeds the soil and the Earth answers –
 Licking its lips –
“I believe you just prayed the wrong prayer.”
