Count Them All
Take a moment to look back on your life,
Count the moments of fear; of strife,
Count the despair and count the sorrow,
Count the days where you thought there’d be no tomorrow,
Count the tears, count the pain,
Count the bad days that repeat over again,
Count the scars and count the grief,
Count the loss; the never-ending motif,
Count all these things that break you down,
That leave you choking on the ground,
Count them all and then hold them back,
Now take a moment to count what you don’t lack,
Count the friends and family,
Count the ones who fulfill your needs,
Count the smiles and count the laughter,
Count those who’ll be there for eternity and after,
Count the love and count the passion,
Count the hugs and kisses of all fashions,
Count faces you’ll never forget,
Count the times you’ll never regret,
Count the handshakes; count the tickles,
Count the touches that make your skin prickle,
Count the moments of sheer delight,
Do they not wash away all the plight?
Count all these things and perhaps you’ll see,
That there is more to life than grief,
Yes, there is sadness on this earth,
Loneliness, despair, and moments lacking worth,
But also there is bliss, delight, and enchantment,
Moments where happiness can run rampant,
If you’ll only allow these moments to take control,
You may just find that you are not un-whole,
Mistakes are made and you will face strife,
But one thing that’s not a mistake is you being given your life,
Take the life you’ve been given; learn to make the most,
Make each moment a memory; don’t let it become a ghost,
Love those around you and you may just realize,
That you can find love even in a stranger’s eyes.
