Spero Spera; There is hope where there is life.

When I was a child

I had a friend

I had a friend of fire

There was fire in her heart

There was life in her voice

Her eyes were clear

She saw the world as it was

She smiled on Mondays,

Because she liked the sunlight

When I was little

I had a friend

I had a friend of sunlight

There was valor in her heart

There was love in her words

She was one with the stars

All day she smiled

All week she laughed

All year she gave hope

How I wished to the stars

How I wished to the moon

Like a lost wolf

So that she,

My friend

Could be happy for years after

How the stars ran cold

How the moon dissappeared

As the light in her eyes died out.

There was fire in her heart

And love in her eyes

But alas, they were not to last

She started to flicker

A ghost of herself

A taunting shadow of what was before

Voices

Jeered left and right

Full of menance

Whispers

Echoed all around

Bringing tidying of lies

Her eyes held only ashes

Her heart was cold

My friend was lost and unseeing

Her life was but a blade of grass

In front of death's rath

Which was, in turn- like a wildfire

And that, my dear is how she came to an end.

For the last time I saw her

Death ripped her away

Merciless in his work

I saw the ember in her eyes

a blazing determination

That she would take with her

I saw the laughter in her heart,

buried deep

But still there

I saw the life in her soul

An unearthly beauty

That shined against my tears

And then she was gone.

How I wished to the stars

How I wished to the moon

Like a lost wolf

That she remained a fire

A fire

A light

A blazing star

in the heavens

For Eternity

And the moon answered

My tears stopped

And just like that

My friend was frozen in time

The author's comments:

I was inspired to write this becuase one of my friends had a friend who was deathly ill. I was told that she had cancer, and along with my feelings when my grandfather died of the sickness, I decided to write this piece. So enjoy ;)
