Where I'm From
I am from books,
From Dr. Seuss and Shakespeare
I am from the ivy,
crawling up the walls
I’m from the Cottonwood,
the Pine tree,
swinging freely through their branches
I am from Christmases spent in Colorado,
sledding down hillsides and drinking hot chocolate
I am from flaming candles and burning incense
Lit at least once a day
I’m from the ocean
From snow and tall buildings
I am from the river,
the curving tree branches
I’m from my polar bear,
worn in and dirty
From the little black Buddha
almost forgotten
until someone rediscovers him
