A Dandelion

She once was a dandelion,

Yellow

And swaying in an ocean of green.

Her golden glow mocked the sun,

And invited strangers to feel her ridges,

Her leaves welcomed their lust,

Unaware of the strength of the breeze

That rocker her to and fro.

Constant-

With a sturdy stem

And full petals,

Believing, dancing.

One blind gaze

Slapped a petal off,

And one strong wind

Knocked her over

And crushed her green ligaments,

But her petals

Were still yellow

Like the sun

For the world to see,

But the world was blind.

The glow dimmed

The shine disheartened.

Smooth childish fingers picked her up

Laughing with delight,

Her petals were plucked off,

One by one, they drifted away into the trees,

Quietly spreading themselves over the earth

To people and places that needed the yellow glow

But she lost herself.

For it’s impossible

To glue petals back together again,

That once belonged to a dandelion.
