Can you tell me why you have been so sad?
I know how you feel,
I really do,
You feel like the world is closing in on you,
The sky no longer sings and the flowers no longer bloom
And Lord only knows you can't wake before noon,
You're getting too old for this,
You're wasting your whole life,
Everything ever has been a lie,
I know how you feel,
I really do,
I know because I feel that way too.
The grass that grows, it surely slows
And turns brown with the leaves that layer it
It smiles, it smirks, it gives a frown,
The creek isn't there to turn it around,
And like the grass, a tree flows from it
And feeds from the creek that hides,
So although it's growing it never winks an eye,
Because the grass knows how you feel,
It really does,
Because it's part of this world and it's closing in on you.
And the waves that crash against the rocks,
They rot with the the years that pass,
They break, they sigh, they fall apart
But never does a tear stray from their eyes,
Because if the rock cried, the ocean, their assaulter,
Would grow with every drop.
So be like a rock, be the grass, be me,
Because we all know how you feel,
We really do,
And it's only because we feel that way too.
