on forgiveness

i am spread so thin on the water
my toes touch the sky
and i am turned around
to watch the sun curse me
whether by fault
or urgency
my teeth chatter to another's
heartbeat
the ending always comes too soon.
i am left alone
collecting my fingernails
and counting my tears
