Color
I love my colors, all of ‘em, even the “ugly” ones.
They are all beautiful,
like people.
Like people, we judge them, like color pencils,
“This one’s pretty, this one’s ugly, I like this one better because of the shade, too dark, too light”, blah, blah, blah. I am tired of being “too dark”, I love my color, because know someone out
there has skin cancer,
and someone else hates their pale skin.
I love my skin.
And I love all the freaking colors in the world,
even the ominous purples,
the too cheerful oranges,
the superficial hot pinks, the calculating grays,
ALL THE COLORS IN THE WORLD SCREAM ONE THING:
beautiful.
And just like every color in the world,
I will respect every person in the world, no matter how
annoying,
or serious,
or “perfect”,
or weird.
Because I’m weird, we’re all weird,
don’t deny it. MLK said “I have a dream,”
and it lives on.
And if King has a dream, then heck yeah, I have a dream too.
I want every color, every person, every personality, shade, and face, to be loved.
So look a little closer,
dig a little deeper.
Or dig a lot deeper,
look a lot closer,
because our society is a humongous fixer-upper,
and everyone knows it, whether it’s said
or not.
And I’m (not)sorry if you’re a racist person, who thinks everyone who’s not your race is a
thug,
rapist,
thief,
or terrorist.
I’m sorry if you think blondes are stupid,
They are
not sparkles and rainbows,
or formulas for parabolas,
but individually,
they are themselves.
You cannot label a person on appearance,
you can only find a friend,
no matter how small the possibility.
I’m sorry if you and I disagree,
and I’m sorry you can’t see it.
The BEAUTY oozing from every single human being and animal on this Earth,
dead or alive.
I do hope one day you see how color cannot define us,
unless we let it.
Everyone says
“We are proud to have a black president,”
but it's hasn't stopped rasism,
there is no quick fix to it.
But let’s see an
indian American girl,
a cancer survivor,
a mother,
with one on the way,
up on that platform,
telling us that she will take care of our nation,
like she takes care of her kids.
With joy, and love.
