The beneift of the doubt,

Is something I won't give again,

After being lied to and torn apart,

I just won't allow myself to give in.

People walked all over me,

Because I let my guard down,

That was a huge mistake,

And it left me wearing a big frown.

They took me for granated,

And left me in the dirt,

When something better came along,

Leaving me with nothing but hurt.

Never again will I be able,

To let someone in,

At least not completely,

Without a little insurance from within.

The walls will have to come down,

At least at some point they will,

I'll let them believe that they're in,

But not that I am ill.

Ill with sadness,

Ill with grief,

I'm lying to them all,

But somehow I feel relief.

I can never say,

What's really on my mind,

I don't know if that's a curse or a blessing,

I'll just have to see what I find.
