I Am A Ballerina
I am a ballerina,
Hair pulled tightly back into a bun,
A permanent smile painted on my lips from the pink lipstick.
I am a ballerina,
Waltzing across the stage,
Arms held high in fifth position,
Shoulder blades nearly touching.
Eyes narrowed in concentration as my feet take over,
Muscle memory at its finest.
Beads of sweat form and cascade down my body.
I am a ballerina,
My schedule always packed.
Between rehearsals, performances, and technique classes, where is the time?
I am a ballerina,
Out of the company of numerous girls, where each one matches, I manage to contribute something unique.
The best compliment given to me was from the director about my unprecedented height in the air, making me different from the unified group.
I am a ballerina,
As the lights beam down, my toes itch off the ground.
My legs leave the earth and for a few seconds, I am finally free.
