Drum Beats
Grace...he gallops through golden plains, you bent low on his back. Your friend.
Honor...courses through his flanks to your spirit. Your comrade.
Majesty...flowing mane reflecting starlight. Your brother.
Hoof beats -- your spirit runs
Free...her soaring nigh the sun while you gaze in wonder. You pray.
Courage...her fallen feather in your hair. You dance.
Radiance...her sheen of plumage worth more than gold in mountains. You smile.
Wing beats -- your spirit soars
Thrill…a rumble across crimson horizon to the cliff. Thank bravery.
Amazed…bison quake the earth -- you draw your bow. Thank fate.
Gratitude...“Pilamiya pelo,” you whisper. Thank you.
Heart beats -- your spirit fills
Shock...this white man calls them ‘animal.’ Not brother.
Outrage…her bloodied wings claims the ground. Not her.
Inhuman…precious life thundered away by rifle. Not forgivable.
Drum beats -- your spirit falls
