Sour Milk
I checked the carton.
“Expires in a week”, it advertised.
Should be okay, I assumed,
Pouring it over my cereal.
I sat down
And took a bite.
And at that first spoonful,
I could taste it:
Sickly sweet, clumpy, tangy.
Sour milk.
I dumped out that bowl
And scrubbed my teeth and tongue.
Yet I couldn’t remove
The lingering taste
Of sour milk
From my mouth.
