"What need is there to weep over parts of life? The whole of it calls for tears." -Seneca
"What is in the way becomes the way" - Marcus Aurelius

There’s a broken engine,
In my head
Going at full speed
A rattle and shake
That sounds of heartache
The gears grinding at the inside of my skull,
Ripping the contents of that hull
I can feel the grey flesh
Turning into apple red slush
I hear the single chant of what
They say with their eyes
Half dead swine, sick gnat, sewer flesh
Do us a god send, fix yourself
With lead pills,
The only thing fit for that casket of ill-wills
Funny thing is, I wish I would fix us all
But hydrogen cyanide, is not a pure cure
Then, looking at my hands in shame
As these maggots gush out of my brains
Maybe they’re right
That vox populi
That’s just what they want me to believe
So I must run, from them or myself?
Run, run as the glass of an empire falls
Turning my skin silk ribbon red
Coming to a riverbed
Water dark as a new moon’s night
I look back to forest, bright with fires of spite
Grasp on my leg pulls me
To the brisk arms of the river.

The fresh water infiltrates my brain, now
Washing out the maggots, and filth
The ribbon worm’s poison cleans the rest
My eyes creak open,
The light is bent by the river’s movement
But it still shines on me
I move to find the shoreline,
I soon breach the water like a sperm whale
And I hold its mighty power
Eyes look and see, but give no injuries
If this is a psychosis, then I’ll drink to this dream
Because my eyes hold a fire, with a beautiful gleam
That cannot be extinguished,
By anything

The author's comments:

This poem is about how many times I felt paranoid (for lack of a better word) about the people around me. In times I felt the worst about myself, I also was suspicious about my friends and family. I questioned the reasoning behind their actions, and often had days were I thought I was hated, even if many times that wasn’t true. However, it is also about how good clarity feels once it is achieved.
