Water Is Thicker Than Blood
Sweet songs and the scent of flowers
Soothing words drip from your tongue
In the pool of knowledge you stand
However, one cannot comprehend it all and keep sanity
Hands may reach up to pull you under
But no matter how far down, we know you would refuse to drown
Forgotten and forgetful of
Albeit remaining wise
Perhaps through the hardest times of your life
Not an empath but to have empathy
To know others are suffering is for you to suffer yourself
To know she had suffered so greatly
Is to experience the trauma alongside her
Cool and stern armor to protect a white rose
For you fear that one may prick their fingers on the thorns
That this rose may cause blood to seep out
From behind the delicate flesh
But fear not, we know you would band-aid those wounds
Just like you have all others
You are not a blade we will cut ourselves on
You are the protector that keeps us from spilling blood
All this time you have cradled us in your arms
All this time you have been so nurturing to each of us
All this time you have provided us with the guidance
That we have required to thrive
With your help us sisters and brothers
Have joined hands in unity and love
You take the hands of those who
Do not find family in our blood relations
You take the hands of those who
Feel a heavy absence
You take the hands of those who
Have forever been blindly reaching out
Wiping our tears
Gifting us with smiles
And laughing along with us
But not so long ago that same laughter
Used to echo inside your hollow shell
Weighted down at the ankles with melancholy
But you have managed to cut the shackles and fly
Granted with a new beat of life
You have always been
A vital part of this beating heart
