Walking
"Look down at your feet," said Mom
The words were meaningless to the toddling girl
Her eyes, open to the trees above
And squinting as light shot through to them between sparser branches
Her shoes blindly crushed their leaves
Mom pointed at the ground
And the girl turned her head understandingly
She bent down in silence and picked up an ugly brownish leaf
And let the ladybug on it crawl onto her hand
