Humanity's Lament
Acid rain crashed on the glass of the East Side
Drenching us all in our lost hopes and shame
Gales and storms raging, and we were to blame
Yet we were the ones who lay cowering inside
And why did we think we could be so much
We thought we were leaders, then blinded by pride
We were nothing but dictators of the genetically modified
In a free-falling world that we thought we could clutch
Assuming control, we were born and we now die
Living off of destruction and self-inflicted pain
And unnecessary bloodshed, so our species could only wane
As we pretended to find new ways to help the victimized
But I shall rise and I shall shout to the dirtied skies
And the rusty ocean and sulfuric mountains will hear my cries
And I hope we will awaken to find that we were wrong
Because knowing we were monsters is the only way we’ll be strong.
