Where I am From
I am from a green golf course
where I spend dawn to dusk.
A friendly game of skins with my dad.
From a time where sleep challenges lost dreams
and glimpse of success leads more.
First team all-state.
I am from a rainy day
making mud pies and castles.
Hosing off in the backyard.
From hiking Devil’s Lake on a summer’s day
cliff jumping into the sparkling waters below.
Drying off as the sun’s rays hug.
I am from Sunday morning church
singing to music and listening to the Pastor.
Counting the bricks on the wall.
From leading Sunday school
calming screaming children.
Arts and crafts glue in my hair.
I am from a family of five,
a twin brother and little sister.
Fights attack once a week.
From a mom and a dad
who support and comfort me
I love them more than the moon.
I am from a green golf course
where the sand becomes a beach
and the water becomes the sea.
From a nature of competition,
Dad, you owe me five dollars.
When I win a friendly game of skins.
