Hear Me Speak
People only care about the big things.
They care about the new house,
the job promotion,
about the graduation certificate.
They show up to the important events,
the mile stone moments,
and receive a far from heart-felt,
typed in a fancy cursive font thank you card
that will undoubtedly end up seeing the inside of a trash bin.
People only care about the big things
and they attend the birthday parties
and the ceremonies.
Creating the illusion of being in your life,
but that’s the thing,
about illusions,
they aren’t real.
People only care about the big things
and the ones who do shouldn’t be receiving any kind of thank you card.
They weren’t there for the ups and downs.
They didn’t see the journey leading up to the success.
They don’t understand your hardships.
They don’t understand your pain.
People who only care about the big things,
never really hear you.
They don’t hear what matters.
What matters isn’t the new and exciting change in your life.
It is the small, unimportant, insignificant things.
When you find someone who truly cares
about how your day was and
are interested in the seemingly
insignificant, minuscule, irrelevant details,
when someone really hears you
is when you look them in the eyes and say,
“I am never letting you go.”
