Mourning the Loss of Imagination

Once upon a time there was a youthful and naive princess
The world was a place for everything and anything
She could climb radiant rainbows and discover pots of shimmering  gold
Her prince was off defending the kingdom from dragons and the occasional troll

But slowly she outgrew her rose gowns
And the world seemed to change: more laws than freedoms
She retired her crown and picked up a rubric
Following obediently to the printed orders of another’s in despairing black letters

She was a damsel in distress
Reality captured and trapped her in an overcast of confined thinking
She awaited for her prince’s unpropitious return
But all hope was forgotten
Her sobs echoed in the tall, empty tower
Her tears provoked by loss;
The loss of her imagination

The author's comments:

I hope teens can relate to the tragedy of following rubrics from the schools to students who have to follow requirements to get a good grade instead using their creativity and imagination to find unconventional ways of approaching prompts.

everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. the worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. [sylvia plath]

I think that every teacher and student needs to keep this poem in mind.

Millie, what a beautiful piece with colors, light, sounds, movements and imagination. Reading it is like appreciating a piece of art work. I feel as if I were listening to Carpenter's song Yesterday Once More.
Also, I like your perspective of preserving the village. It's such an enlightening idea.
