A Multi-flavored Icecream for Rising Seniors
I have a total mixed feeling-
A feeling of eating a multi-flavored ice-cream.
Sweet, bitter, sour flavours and some scoop of excitement and sadness!
Dear rising seniors,
can you believe that you’ve almost lived twenty years?
You looked at the pictures of twenty years
Ago, and do you ever realise that you were born during that
“Old times”?
Dear rising seniors,
can you believe that in few months,
You are applying to colleges,
You will get letters of recommendation,
You will get admission or rejection letters,
You will graduate and accomplish your years at school and
You will migrate to colleges like albatross?
Dear rising seniors,
can you believe that you will be in a bigger society,
facing more responsibilities,
encountering more obstacles as if you are on a broken bicycle,
hoping that you will have freedom, but you somehow miss mommy and daddy’s
arms?
Dear rising seniors,
can you believe that for few months, you will have a collection of work to do, as
You have to take the SATs,
You have to take school exams and tests,
You have to write your portfolio,
You have to write college essays,
You have to just give up on sweet desires and get back to working?
Because ironically sweet dream comes after you abandon sweet desires.
In few months,
it will be over soon.
Can’t believe it.
Born in the late 1990s and we have lived through the new millennium.
We are one of the last 90’s kids.
And soon, we won’t be kids.
Indeed, we are not kids anymore.
We are the rising seniors.
Soon, we will have our final school year.
We are the rising seniors.
We are the rising people.
We are the rising journalists, doctors, engineers, artists and rising
what-cha-ma-call-it.
We had a journey as albatrosses.
Sometimes, we were on a broken bicycle.
Sometimes, we hoped for a miracle.
Sometimes, we wanted to have an oracle.
Sometimes, we wanted to break the cycle and begin again.
We had a journey of an albatross of a sweet desire.
But in few months,
it will be over soon.
Can’t believe it.
Dear rising seniors,
can you believe that you’ve almost lived twenty years?
You looked at the pictures of twenty years
Ago, and do you ever realise that you were born during that
“Old times”?
Can you believe that who knows, in ten years, we will get married,
and have children who are exactly like us?
Can you all believe this?
I have a total mixed feeling-
A feeling of eating a multi-flavored icecream.
Sweet, bitter, sour flavours and some scoop of excitement and sadness!
