Sometimes I struggle to get out of bed

Afriad to face the day, I hide under the covers 

Pretending that I'm tired 

I struggle with expressing how I feel

Friends they don't really know 

What's stirring inside my heart, my soul

Once in awhile I struggle to hold on to my dreams 

I can feel them dying and floating away

Never to be seen again

I struggle with this beautiful brown skin

People forming judgements and giving opinions 

That nobody asked for 

Sometimes I struggle with finding out who I am 

Contemplating and worrying that I won't find my voice 

And nobody will ever hear me

So even though I struggle now 

I know one day I will rise like the Phoenix
