I believe America is the greatest country in the world 

Even when it makes mistakes that hurt people 

People that are different

Whether it's by race, religion, sexual orientation, or even gender 

I still believe that it's the best country in the world 

I know America is divided right now 

One side is screaming with all their might 

The other is fighting with all their strength 

But I believe that they will come together 

Because both sides are motivated by the same thing

Fear

For their children, lives, and the future 

So am I

But I know with all my heart that it will be okay 

Because as a African-American girl I know what it means to struggle

To face my country with uncertainty about how they see me

And to be afraid of my future 

Despite that, I will have courage 

Courage to take on the issues that hurt my beloved country 

Racism, Homophobia, Bigotry, Misogyny, Islamophobia,

I see you and I'm not hiding, I'm not cowering 

Because besides courage, I have Hope

Hope that people who are gay will be able to walk freely in the streets 

Hope that my African-American brethren will stop falling at the hands of bullets

Hope that women will get the chance to prove themselves and rise up to the occasion 

Hope that one day people of Islamic faith will stop being persecuted for what they believe 

Hope that one day every one from different walks of life will come together 

Because that's my America, the America I know to be

Home of the free and the brave

That's My America
