The Art of Baking
Standing in the the kitchen,
I needed something to get my mind off of the craziness of life.
An intricate recipe with 14 steps of detail.
I began, making precise measurements.
I added 1 ½ cups flour, ¾ cup sugar, ¾ cup cocoa, and 1 teaspoon baking soda.
Growing up, I was just a helper.
Now I stand in the kitchen with my own tools.
Making my own recipe, with no helper.
Two eggs and half a teaspoon of vanilla.
Gently cracking the eggs and dumping the ingredients into the bowl.
After that, I mixed the ingredients together and put it in a pan,
then continued the recipe after putting in the oven for 45 minutes.
The next part made the recipe perfect; Making the whipped cream and chocolate drizzle.
The memories were flooding in like a waterfall. I used to say, “I’m gonna be a chef!”
mom would say, “ You can do anything you put your mind to!”
The whipped cream took the most time, so I started on that first.
I added the heavy whipping cream, sugar and vanilla into a clean mixing bowl.
Then turned the mixer on high, til it turned fluffy, with stiff peaks.
I then pulled the brownies out of the oven, then cut them into cubes and set them aside.
Adding a tablespoon of butter and two cups of chocolate chips to the double boiler.
I stopped for a moment and thought again.
I licked the spoon, just like I used to.
Oh how the days went by.
After the chocolate melted, I then started the layering process in small, clear glasses;
Whipped cream, three brownie bites, and five fresh raspberries.
After I did that layering method two times in each glass,
I then added one more layer of whipped cream on top.
After I added the whipped cream, I then drizzled chocolate over the top.
As I finished, I looked at what I made; A masterpiece, at last!
I am satisfied with my progress.
