True Monster
Help, there's a monster under my bed
Please help me now, the little boy said
Don't fret, just sleep, there's nothing to fear
His mother would call from downstairs
  I love you, my dear
Help, there's a monster under my bed
It's shaking and snarling, the little boy said
His mother sighed, the night sky is clear
There are no storms, no shadows passing by
  Stop crying, my dear
Help, there's a monster under my bed
Please get it out, the little boy said
His mother went upstairs and looked under the bed
found no monster there but the boy instead
dragged him out by his feet and with him his fears
  and every broken promise
  Stop whining, my dear
Help, there's a monster under my bed
The little boy whispered, hands pressed to his head
My mother can't see you, but I know you're there
The darkness sighed and wreathed into his hair
  I know, my dear
