America
I walk among ruins
Of the neoclassical architecture
The trail I so yearned to follow in Virginia
The buildings decimated
I find it ironic
We designed these buildings
After the Greeks and the Romans
First, the Statue of Liberty fell
As we watched our beloved French gift in horror
Destroyed by a war internally
I watched as Capitol Hill fell
America fell
Just like the Greeks and Romans
We designed D.C. for
And how strange it was
We didn’t fall by bombs or foreign attack
We fell because we divided as a nation
I watch this slowly
We are not the nation we once were
We are divided

I didn't write this with any current event in mind. More of a lot of events all wrapped together, since they interlock in my mind.
