False Escape
Ten ton weights
rain down from the sky.
Thwack!
Crippled, but alive,
he is a turtle crawling amongst his friends.
Some lift the weight, others chip away at it,
he carries it- he procrastinates.
All the same,
all wrong.
Seemingly forced into a stream,
the turtle accelerates toward a cliff.
It’s a familiar muffled world.
Steadily, nature pulls him to the fall,
weighted down he hopelessly flails.
Regret.
It’s a lie, says his
ironclad mind. It’s easy.
Forget.
The water becomes light,
over the edge he goes.
White underside of his shell,
exposed to the blue sky.
It’s true.
Engulfed by water it ends
with the crack of his shell.
Naked and forgetful,
he walks again.
Thwack!
