I am a lake.
During the day the sun shines across the lake,
boats race across the shimmery surface and waves crash against the shore.
As the sun dips across the shore a sheet of silence sets across the sea of blue,
boats come off one by one, and the eerie croak of frogs echoes in the distance.
In the summer the crisp waters provide sweet relief from the blistering heat,
families flock to the launch, waiting for their turn to set sail.
Winter comes and the lake transforms, unrecognizable,
four feet of ice, parkas and snow pants replacing swimsuits and shorts.
Constantly changing, always staying,
lively yet lonely, strong yet shy,
adjusting to life as the waves roll on.
