Chipped Mason Jars
I am from drinking from chipped mason jars
From pine trees and red clay dirt
I am from stuffed animals and handmade quilts
Carving jack o'lanterns and riding parade floats
I am from sparklers and late nights
Finding wild turtles and having water balloon fights
I am from cheesecake and fish and rice
Marshmallow mateys and split pea soup
I am from car rides and dinosaur songs
Grandma's house and free ice cream
I am from the blanket I brought everywhere
The sister I used to wish wasn’t there
I am from drinking from chipped mason jars
Colored pencil shavings and filled sketchbooks
I am from singing songs under my breath
Tens of once used spiral bound notebooks
I am from weekends camping with dad
The smell of tree smoke and smores and insect repellant
I am from early morning cold tiled floors
Dancing like a maniac when no one else is there
I am from little brothers playing dogs
Forbidden tickle fights and hide and go seek
I am from small blue rocket ships
Oversized hoodies and tangled up hair
I am from drinking from chipped mason jars
Sneaking out our window to catch fireflies
I am from bare feet and blanket forts
Baseball caps worn backward and Capri Suns
I am from stick figure drawings of our family
Including the halos and angel wings
I am from leaving the microwave on END
Playing Indians and cowboys with imaginary friends
I am from Go Diego Go and Maisy the Mouse
Fox and the Hound, the Lion King
I am from giant styrofoam blocks
From cutting down our own Christmas tree and letting it dry out
Nostalgia has a taste and mine is chipped mason jars

I was feeling nostalgiac at midnight... not to mention I was drinking from my glass of choice; a chipped mason jar.
