homesick
if home is where the heart is, my home is with you:
my father jerry and my mother sue.
i may be off miles away from you at school,
but i'll only survive with your love as a tool.
school made me smart, but your lessons made me wise.
i wouldn't be who i am without you to advise.
whether it's left from right or right from wrong,
your guidance has changed me and made me strong.
with parents like you, i couldn't be any more blessed.
with everything you do, you are certainly the best.
i regret all the times i took you for granted,
all the times i was upset, yelled, and ranted.
on this friday night when people are out drinking,
i'm sitting in my room and of you i'm thinking.
of how you raised me with morals and class,
but never once compromised my signature sass.
whether you were a mother, father, coach, or friend,
you gave yourselves unconditionally with no end.
your unselfishness and compassion will always be admired,
to be a great parent like you one day i am inspired.
for the last 19 years, you always put me first.
you were there for my best days and also my worst.
i love you and i thank you for all you do for me,
if you thought i don't miss you, i hope now you see.

sometimes strength is not measured by holding on to something, but by letting go.
