Et Tu Brutus
Et Tu Brutus
Didn’t you hear the people sing?
“All hail Caesar, for Caesar is our king!”
But three times, he declined.
And set his pride aside
Yet for you, the sound of his tyranny rings.
Et Tu Brutus
Is this the path you’re on?
One life for the people
So they’ll sing of their freedom
Is it honor you search for?
Is it justice you gave?
A man climbing ambition’s ladder
But a man all the same.
And as you looked up to the stars
That night
Did you find, the North star’s
unflickering light?
Did his lack of change, change you?
Was he merely a serpent which grew?
Or did you take a bite from the hand which had kindly fed you?
But for the people of Rome
You now choose how his story goes
So et tu Brutus
Oh how power has changed you
You’re one with the people
But Caesar did love you
Did you think of all his glory?
His wife and children mourning
So et tu Brutus
A friend that’s proven true
More honor to you.

I wrote this song for an English project at school where we had to come up with a creative project based on Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. I hope you enjoy!
