Precious Sonnet
Her sad journey began when she was born.
This baby girl was Precious as the sun.
Her clothes were always too small and too worn.
Precious was to work never to have fun.
Living in a cheaply made war-torn house.
A Precious teenage girl cooks for a witch.
Abused by her mother and mother's spouse.
They made her want to die in a cold ditch.
She struggled at the birth of her new child.
Her newborn was healthy, she was happy.
The first time in a while she cried and smiled.
Her mother hated her and was snappy.
Even though Precious was hated by some.
Her baby loved her still, in the town slum.
Based on the movie Precious
