Winter
I ran with you away from winter
Into the spring of hope and friends
Wishing, wanting, dreaming forever
That summer would never end
Winter was all I’d ever known
It was all I’d been told was true
Until the day the sun came out
And ran away again with you
Chasing after the sun on wings
And fighting a losing fight
Praying the warmth wouldn’t leave my fingers
Until those wings took flight
But winter called me back one day
It never left my side
Determined to be rid of the cold
I knew I could never hide
The snowflakes glistened and gleamed in the dark
And gently whispered to the sea
Unique, and beautiful, like winter itself
It was a part of me
I had to let go of my summer
And return to what I knew
Luckily, the sun was willing to follow
And came along with you
But now, we sit in the winter
And it feels so different, yet the same
And always, always, always the snowflakes
Are chidingly calling my name
