I will always keep my independence;
Even though there is a man by my side;
To some people it will never make sense;
In him there are time that I do not confide;
My independence is a part of me;
However he is a part of my life;
My independence is what they all see;
Dependence on him does cause me strife;
When it comes to it I count on myself;
I put a lot of my trust in him;
That way my trust is not just on a shelf;
I know my chances of heartbreak are slim;
Another thing I have is self-respect;
I do not care how their opinions reflect.

The author's comments:
When I wrote this piece I was in a relationship, however I am single now. I see no point however in writing the poetry and then when something goes wrong throwing it away or tearing it up. I want people to get from this poem and any of my poems that you can have an experience but you do not have to regret any decisions you made.
