Death is Upon Me
The tide is rolling in and time is short.
The enemy is coming very soon.
I still feel love for this old, ugly fort.
I peer to the east and hear the first boom.
I load my rifle and pray for the best.
The defining roar of war has begun.
The opposing soldiers wear bright red vests.
A friend tries to tell me it will be fun.
Bodies already litter the coast line.
The shots are true, the barrels are rifled.
A thought comes to my mind: it will be fine.
Then at that moment my thoughts were stifled.
All my friends around me stood petrified.
Because they watch me commit suicide.
