The Giver is a story about a boy named Jonas, who, on the ceremony of the 12’s, was chosen as the next Receiver of Memory.

During the Ceremony of the 12’s, all the twelves are called up by order by their numbers. When the person before Jonas was called, he was ready to figure out what job he would have. Then when that person was done, the Chief Elder had called the number after Jonas, so she skipped him. After the ceremony, she apologizes for confusing the members of this community.

Jonas had 8 rules.

Rule 1: Report the the Annex Immediately
Rule 2: When training is done for the day, go straight home
Rule 3: He may be rude
Rule 4: Not to discuss his training
Rule 5: No dream-telling
Rule 6: No pain medicine for job related pain
Rule 7: Not allowed to apply for a release
Rule 8: Jonas may lie

Jonas at one point, started to see color, and he asked the Giver what it was, and he answered.

I thought this book was a good one because, It is futuristic and different from our society on Earth now. It has some twists in the story. It takes a while to read, but it’s totally worth it.
