When you think of your childhood, what may come to mind are the holidays spent with old family members you don’t remember meeting, summer days that seemed to last forever, or the pet goldfish you had for a week that suddenly vanished without a trace. Or maybe, you think of the old mobile games you used to play when you stole your parent’s phone. The movie Angry Birds brought with it all these feelings of nostalgia. 

Although made for children, the movie allows older people to remember the fun game that the movie is based on. It gives a backstory to the iconic stories of the original game. The main character “Red” is the same red bird with the thick eyebrows that take up half his face. The other characters from the game are also included, like the bomb shaped bird named “Bomb” and the yellow triangular bird “Chuck”. The movie even kept the original superpowers for noth the main and side characters. 

The movie follows “Red” after he overreacts one too many times and is sent to anger management classes. There, he meets “Chuck” and “Bomb”, who he, although having no friends, dislikes and avoids. While the main plot of the movie progresses, the struggles of “Red” shine through. It wouldn’t be a kids movie without a life lesson to learn, and this is shown through Red’s growth. He learns to tamp down his ego and accept the people in his life, even though they aren’t “cool” to him. This plot made the lesson easy to understand for kids, but still entertaining for other people. 

The main plot of the movie comes in the form of the green pigs visiting the bird island with many gifts and new inventions. Red becomes suspicious of their intentions, but is ignored due to his antisocial behavior and pessimistic views. Red decides to look for the legend of the mighty eagle, who he has looked up to since he was a kid, for help. When he finds his hero, he learns the truth about why you shouldn’t meet your heroes. The town soon learns that Red was right, and they all need to work together to save themselves from the threat of the pigs. 

The Angry Birds movie is lighthearted and fun while still touching base on important life lessons such as acceptance, anger management, and believing in others. It has entertaining jokes for new fans and old ones of the original game.
