The Crucible
The movie “The Crucible” takes place in Salem, Massachusetts during the 17th century. In this town there is many building such as a church/courtroom, and peoples’ houses, farms were around the outskirts of town. Some of the main characters are John Procter, Abigail Williams, Goody Procter, Tituba, Thomas Putnam,
Goody Putnam, Rev. Harris, and Rev. Paris.
There were many conflicts through out this movie. Like John Proctor and Abigail Williams. Abigail wanted to have an affair with John, but he was married to Goody Proctor. Therefore, that adds intensity to the whole movie. Another conflict in this movie is when all the soon to be afflicted girls are introduced to dancing by Tituba in the forest during the middle of the night. Also the next day when two of the girls cannot wake. Everyone is wondering what happened. That was what started the whole witch trials in Salem. The whole witch trials started a new court call “The Court of Oyer and Terminer
I think this movie was a good movie because it had intensity, and it showed how our laws were in the 17th century. In addition, it showed that people handled problems a lot different in the 17th century. It was good with the historical events, was accurate with the timing of the events, and made you feel like you were there in that time. The ending disappointed me because there are people talking with nooses around their necks and one by one, they get push off. I think the ending needed to be about as strong as the rest of the movie.
“The Crucible” I think is a good movie to show to classes while learning about the Salem Witch Trials because it was intense, it made you feel like you were there in the movie, like you were apart of this colony. In addition, it was accurate with the historical events and the timing was great. I think this was a good use of time in the classroom. It was strong from the beginning almost to the end.
