Grave of the Fireflies is a very emotional animated movie from Japan. Written and directed by Isao Takahata
who later brought it to Studio Ghibli, the most known worldwide animation studio from Japan who are known
for their classic animated movies. Grave of the fireflies is no exception to their reputation. It sets a very
accurate portrayal of Japan during World War II. The focus of this movie settles on the life of Seita and
Setsuko and how they have to survive as orphans during the struggles of war.

This heartfelt tale invokes an "anti-war" message and how needless battles of war destroy even the most innocent ones. The older brother Seita has to take care of his younger sister Setsuko and make sure they both make do with what they have. Seita has to use the money left over in the bank for him for food to share with his younger sister.
He has to collect fresh water and even at low times, has to resort to stealing to stay alive and healthy.
Grave of the Fireflies has made me think differently about war and peace and is also one of the very few
movies to make me cry. This 1988 classic is still suited for today's standards and I urge everyone to at
least see and recognize why this is not only one of the best animated movies, but one of the greatest of all
time
