Fire Flies by Owl City
Fire Flies by Owl City is perhaps one of the most creative songs that I have heard in a very long time. It is refreshing to hear a song that is different. It would be difficult to place this song in a genre; I hear techno, pop, soft rock and alternative within the first thirty seconds. The best way to classify it would be to say it is a collage of many different types of music, a gumbo of genres all steamed together. Listening to this song, my mind conjures up pictures of flashing and dancing lights. Not to mention the music video online is visually inspiring, a collaboration of old fashioned and futuristic toys, in a bedroom, whizzing, clapping, and whirling in a song that speaks of not being able to sleep. The irony is clear and this all put together makes this song a wonderful composition.
