Classic Rock MAG
Before the Punk Rock and Grudge Rock that came with Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, and Blink 182
Before the head banging music of Nirvana and Pearl Jam,
And even before the vibrant and explosive
Guns ‘N’ Roses and Bon Jovi
There was a different style of Rock,
A more open, animated, a more emotional kind.
Many people today have forgotten this Rock,
They are caught up in the dance, hip-hop, and rap from the ’80s, ’90s and the present
Styles of tune they call music.
But many people still hold the albums, CDs, and records in their libraries or dens
By the brilliant artists of
The ’60s and ’70s, and sometimes early ’80s.
Hopefully we will never throw away our
remembrance of those
Who created music using only guitars, drums,
pianos and words.
It is remembered as Classic Rock.
But there is more to Classic Rock than just the
music; there are also the people who made it.
Jim Morrison and The Doors mixed magical
poetry and their psychedelic aura,
The creative and colorful rocking of Led Zeppelin will leave a distinguished trail forever,
It’s “More Than A Feeling” when you listen to Boston, as well as the
Classic songs of Kansas, and the marching
band-character-like music of Chicago.
Nothing can match the dynamic sound of
Electric Light Orchestra,
Or the mystifying, mysterious, subliminal
messages in the compositions of Pink Floyd.
George Thorogood and his Destroyers projected their “Bad to the Bone” style rock with
Their teeth-gritting electric guitar and his renowned harmonica,
But Peter Frampton’s and the great Santana’s crushing air guitar skills are those
Of which the likes have never been seen ... or heard.
But let us not forget classics
Such as the overwhelming and towering emotion, spirit, and compassion through the
Music of the brilliant Freddie Mercury and Queen,
Or the catchy, uplifting tunes of The Rolling Stones - Jethro Tull - Steppenwolf - Eagles -
it goes on.
And only two bands held, could grasp, and hold on to true country rock: The great
Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers.
Finally ... yet not finally ... how could we forget arguably the two
Greatest songwriters of all time: the Bob Dylan ... and Paul McCartney
And the Beatles.
These are just some of the pioneers of Classic Rock history,
The Cream of the Crop, the Best of the Best.
Some of these great bands have passed on,
Some still exist, trying to relive great memories.
Each and every one has made a legacy for
themselves,
And hopefully, we will never forget
Any one of them.
