Last year, Star wars fans had been going crazy all over the media for the 2023 TV series Ahsoka. People had been praising the show; then, gradually, critics get over the excitement and look deeper into the show and now, after month of the ending episode, I feel safe to say that the series is a wasted potential.

Now, don’t get angry yet—I know there are many out there who still like the series. Before full-on roasting the show, let’s just go over some of the good stuff.

Bright Side

Good casting: can’t argue with the casting—they all suit their characters too well and I don’t think I need to explain this.
Clone Wars nostalgia: In spite of the plot line (later), I’d be lying if I say I didn’t yelp when Hayden came back as tcw Anakin and the live action Clone Wars. #ReturnOfTheKing
The music. Kevin Kiner never let me down when composing soundtracks.

Characters

Honestly, I can’t see too much major development for the characters? Maybe I’m stupid, idk. But I still feel like things just happened without a character change or sth. Oh um, maybe Sabine? With her Jedi thing? I dunno that feels off even if it counts as some sort of development. I mean, it’s totally cool to see old characters, but then what? It’s like nothing happened.

With new characters like Shin and Baylan introduced, they sure come as badass and interesting—but then what? Again, we see the characters, but I feel like yes…almost there on the character development arc…but damn it we’re not there?? I mean, yes we know Baylan as a Jedi general and Shin as his padawan…but then? Maybe the series is saving the truth for reveal, idk, but I still feel that they’re missing stuff

Okay the series trashed Thrawn. I’m just gonna say it. “For the empire” that line did it all. I can’t believe it—of course, people who know Thrawn from maybe the Mando series may eat it, but even if you know Thrawn from only the Rebels this live feels odd—if you’ve done the Thrawn novels than it’s totally wrong. Still, Thrawn, even in Rebels, seems to have a personal goal ahead of his service to the empire. You can say that that line is idk satire?? But no, feels off. I dislike the fact that Disney is trying to fit Thrawn more in the “people know him as a warlord in Mando” typical villain type than a deeper and more complex character.

Plotline

Take a moment and consider the plot, and you’d realize—nothing kind of happened? I mean, it’s like find bad guy→found and duel→escaped→find bad guy→found and duel→escaped again. ??? okay they did find Ezra, but still, in some way I feel that the plot lacks nutrition …

…Because the logic line is only build after the event point they want us to see, e.g. duels, Ghost fam, clone war flashback, Ezra. Things happen because the plot NEED them to happen, and that’s that! It’s okay to build a plot based on important events, yes, but dulling the plot is not the answer.

Reflection on Trend

This is alarming to think about because if you look on a wider scale of Disnty’s production for Star Wars projects, you see a trend of bring back classic character and stuff: Obi wan, Leia, Ahsoka and clone wars, Ghost crew and Thrawn, or even earlier on with the sequels.

AND THEN?? It would be nice if they actually do something excellent to the characters (something that seems totally possible but yet extremely hard for Disney to do)

But honestly, do I need to say about the Kenobi series? It makes me worried more about the future of other old characters being dumped into this kind of series. (the reunion of Vader/Kenobi is cool but that’s it tbh)

THIS IS ALARMING

who knows which character is gonna be pulled out and thrown into worrying production in the future. I mean, if it’s good it would be cool ofc; but is it worrying? is there possibility that old characters would be trashed? yes and i don’t like it.

Dave Filoni the hat man is now in charge, and i feel like he has a thing for writing character comebacks. It’s not un-great, but it can be better.

Disney + is eager to sell the popularity of the franchise and at this point I feel like it would do anything for a good sale—no matter a good story production, if it can sell popularity, it goes in the project. This is worrying.

Ahsoka: cannot be classified as a good show, have the potential but ultimately not goos enough. better to watch edits I’d say.

Star Wars as a whole is…honestly, I worry more than I hope. Every new project announced made the fanbase boil. But who knows, maybe things would turn out better like the prequels did, maybe not. For now, let’s just enjoy what we have.
