Gordon’s Great Gastronomy Adventure

Deep in the scorching Arabic desert, Gordon, a recipe-obsessed chef, scoured the sand dunes looking for a man who is rumored to have the secret to the most flavorful, mouth-watering recipes that can elevate any dish. It was rumored that the only way to get the special recipes was to roam around the desert until you passed out and then the man would find your body and take you to the border and the coveted secrets would be within your reach. Gordon walked around the humid wasteland for days. Gordon was exhausted, but he needed to keep walking. Soon Gordon slowly lost his vision and blacked out. Gordon laid on the sand, lifeless, waiting to be found by the man. Gordon woke up frustrated, but he wasn’t thirsty and exhausted. He was right in front of the town’s border where he had started his journey. Gordon knew he had been found by the man, so he searched his pockets and then his bag and he found something. Gordon found a bronze lamp inside of his bag. Gordon was confused why he had a lamp and tried shaking it to see if anything was inside, but suddenly the lamp started vibrating. Gordon dropped the lamp in shock and saw smoke come out from the lamp. Gordon then felt a tap on his back. Gordon shrieked in panic and turned around to see a floating blue figure. “Hello, Gordon. Do not be frightened for I am the Gastronomy Genie, the keeper of the secrets of the world’s most delicious recipes,” the genie proclaimed. “You can only pick 2 recipes from me, with each of them originating from all the countries of the earth”. Gordon picked recipes from Japan and Indonesia; he was given scrolls containing the exact ingredients and ways to cook the food. “My service as a Gastronomy Genie has finished for I have served my 100th person and now I am free,” said the Genie. “Before I go I must warn you that these foods can be highly addictive if you try to elevate it more as it is already balanced to the point where it is good, but not addictive”. The genie would then disappear into a mist nowhere to be found. Gordon knew with great power came great responsibility.

 

While on his way back to England, Gordon read the recipes on the plane, starting off with the Japanese recipe. It was ramen, but it was special. All he needed was a rich broth made with a special herb and chicken bones and freshly made noodles topped with sliced chashu pork and a half-boiled egg. Gordon then found a tiny bag filled with seeds to create the special herb. The next recipe was Indonesian grilled chicken, but he needed to feed the chickens special pepper seeds and use a black chicken native to Indonesia. Gordon arrived at his home and quickly planted the pepper seeds and the herb seeds and waited. While the seeds were growing, he made his friend take care of his seeds, while he traveled to Indonesia to bring home black chickens to breed. After a week, it was all finished; he had his chickens ready and his plants grown. Gordon then brought the ingredients into his kitchen and made the recipes. As he added the herbs to the broth, he had never smelt something so good before. Gordon finished the Ramen and tasted it. Gordon was shocked; the broth was so flavorful with all the other ingredients just complimenting it. Gordon finished his bowl in seconds and instantly his mood was happy. Gordon then prepared his pepper seed-fed chicken and seasoned it with a special sauce and grilled it. Gordon’s kitchen smelled heavenly as soon as he put his chicken on the grill. He played the chicken and served it with some vegetables and took a bite. The chicken was so tender and was absolutely delectable. Gordon felt guilty that only he could experience eating these two special dishes, so he opened a restaurant with only those 2 items on the menu and called it “The Sanctuary”. Then a customer came and had the best food of his entire life. It didn't take long for customers to surround The Sanctuary to try his food. It took exactly only 2 hours for all of Gordon’s ingredients to run out.  Gordon closed his restaurant to hear the sighs of disappointed hungry customers and he went home. Gordon sat on his couch and calculated the money he got from his restaurant. Gordon earned 1500 dollars in only 2 hours with only 2 items on his menu. Gordon went to work planting his herbs and peppers and raising his chicken farm and sold a majority of the results in only 2 hours. Gordon would continue to grow his business and his wealth would also continue to grow. Now Gordon had 20 restaurants in the span of 5 months. As Gordon's wealth grew, his greed grew even stronger. Gordon wanted more money and became the world’s richest chef. So, he tested out and tried to improve his dishes and add more to his menu. Gordon completely forgot the rule that the Gastronomy Genie had told him and only wanted to fuel his greed for money. Gordon used the special herbs, chickens and peppers to create dishes that were too delicious for the world to have. Gordon added the new items in the menu and the money came rolling. Gordon put a large price tag on the menu items and people still bought them because of how good the food was. Gordon was enjoying his lavish lifestyle sitting in a luxurious living room with a glass of wine in his hand and suddenly his assistant came in through the door looking very anxious. “Sir our restaurants are running out of ingredients, there are simply too many orders. People are demanding to have the noodles and the chicken.  They are saying they cannot live without them.” Gordon went to his kitchen to get additional ingredients, only to find his pepper seeds and herbs missing.  In their place was a note:  “Dear Gordon, It seems you have forgotten my warning. Now you are no longer the guardian of these two recipes.  I must come back into this world to find a more deserving chef.”  Signed….GG

 

Gordon could not believe it!  He has ruined the opportunity of a life time, but even worse than that, he would never again taste the delectable flavors of those two magic dishes.

I enjoy cooking and writing stories so I decided to write this story which is mainly about cooking and adventure and decided to submit it
