The choice
Black eyes, running makeup, broken dreams. Anna lays in the bathtub filled with shockingly cold water. She can’t feel anything anymore, she hasn’t been able to for awhile. It all started last semester, she made a mistake, but so what? Everyone does! Why is she so heavily judged by her one mistake? why does she have to be tormented this badly? It was only a kiss! She didn’t know he had a girlfriend! It wasn’t her fault, it isn’t her fault, he said all these sweet and loving things, promises of love, and more. So she kissed him...he promised....why did he lie?
Anna looks at the side of the tub, the little piece of metal she had been staring at for hours. She hasn’t done it for five months now, she was getting better finally! Then this happen...WHY! Why did she have to make such a dumb mistake, she should’ve known that he didn’t love her! She should have known this would happen! Why did she have to be such a slut?
As anger and adrenaline rushes through her she picks up the little piece of metal and hold it to the light, admiring it as it shimmers then brings it to her wrist and presses it to her marble skin then slides it across her wrist, the pain is surprising at first but soon the pleasure of release begin to flow into her mind as all the painful memories fade to grey and noise. She slices again, and again, and again in tell she can’t remember the pain, hell she can’t even remember her own name she is on a pain and pleasure high. Never wanting to come down from it, never wanting to leave it.
She looks down at her bloody wrist as regret starts to trickle in ‘no! not yet! let me have a little more relief!’ she begs her mind to let her have just a little more time! But as the tears begin to fill up in her eyes she curls up in the water and dunks her wrist in the water and she cries, trying to stay quiet as she hiccups and sobs. As the water began to turn red Anna becomes disoriented.
Just before Anna fades into the darkness of unconsciousness the door opened, Anna lazily turned her head to feel a shock of surprise shiver through her as her best friend James walks in. “Anna...A-Anna!” James stutters and gasps and he rips Anna from the icy cold clutches of the water. He threw a towel around her and held her close to his chest. “I’m so sorry Anna it’s not your fault. I’m here for you!” he kissed her head and whispers into her cold wet hair “I love you Anna, I’m sorry..”
Anna felt a warm love swelling inside her. James refused to talk to her for the past month and now, she wasn’t alone. She cuddled close to him and kissed him softly. “I love you too..”
