All I remember was driving down King’s Cross Avenue, when a blue car smashed into my mom’s van . . .
I awoke to my ears ringing and my head pounding from the accident. Luckily, I wasn’t seriously injured from the impact, just had a few bruises. I was in a strange place. A bedroom that was very plain and simple. All that was there was a night stand to my right and a closet to my left.

Suddenly, I heard creaky footsteps of someone walking toward the door of the room. I quickly laid back down and pretended like I was still asleep. The person opened the door and walked up to the side of the bed. My palms started to sweat. When I shut my eyes, I imagined all the horrible things that could've happened to my mom, I didn’t wanna imagine that so my eyes snapped open.  My heart was racing and I’m pretty sure whoever it was could hear it beating.

“Jordan….Jordan!” she shook me.

I slowly turned my head to find a medium sized woman with brownish-red hair and wrinkles that could go for miles staring back at me.

“Who are you? Where am I? Where’s my mom?” I demanded.

“Calm down, everything’s going to be alright,” she assured.

I sat up in the bed, now scared and confused.

“No, I need to see my mom, is she okay?" I asked.
The lady’s facial expression darkened and she glared at me with piercing brown eyes.

“I took you from her because she wasn’t treating you right,” she hissed.

She backed away and quickly walked out the room. The conversation escalated so quickly. I threw the covers off of myself and silently moved toward the door to leave, I tried opening it but it wouldn’t budge.

“This horrid woman! She locked the door!" I whispered to myself.

Tears slid down my face at the thought of never seeing my mom again. My anxiety kicked in, I had shortness of breath and the room started to spin. After 10 minutes of calming myself down, I began thinking of a plan to escape this miserable place. I didn’t know how dangerous she actually was, so I planned to be cautious around her.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK, the door burst open and the lady had returned after hours of not seeing her with a plate of chicken nuggets and broccoli for dinner.

“What is your name?" I asked her.

“Mary,” she responded.

“Why are you doing this? Why did you kidnap me?" I cried.

“Eat your food,” she insisted.

She ignored my question. I was hesitant to take a bite because I was scared of being poisoned. I was starving so I took the risk. She was kind to me, but she gave off unsettling vibes.
As she left the room she told me, “When you’re done eating, it’s lights out,” like she was my mom. I rolled my eyes at her because I hated the fact that she was trying to act like her.
During the night, I was tossing and turning from nightmares of being stuck in this house. Mary walked into my room the next morning with a trench coat on and a purse thrown over her shoulder.

“I’m going out to the grocery store to grab a few things,” she mentioned.

“Can I go with you?" I asked.

“You actually think I’d be stupid enough to let you come out with me where you have a chance to run away?!” she scoffed.

“Maybe not, but I definitely think you’re crazy,” I mocked.

Mary grabbed my throat and brought her face close to mine, “You disrespectful little girl! Don’t EVER call me crazy!” she screamed. I think there’s something wrong with her because her mood changes so easily.

“I’m leaving now, see ya!" she faked smiled at me. She then left me locked up in her lair all alone. I took advantage of this rare time to try and escape. I waited until I heard the front door slam before I tried anything. BAM, that was my que. I tested to see if she remembered to lock my door. CREEK the rusty wooden door squeaked open. She forgot to lock it! A tiny bit of hope entered my body. I slipped through the opening and slowly tip toed down the staircase. I turned left and walked through the small living room, which had a moldy, torn up couch and a large carpet that had many unidentifiable stains. I turned the knob of the front door, which was locked of course. The bottom level of the house was big circle , so I had to take another left to enter the kitchen. In there was the door to the garage, which was left unlocked. I pressed the button on the wall to open it and I sprinted as fast as my body could handle. I tried to stay hidden so if Mary happened to be on her way home she wouldn’t catch me.

Mary lived in a rural part of town, so everything was spread out. After traveling for about 3 miles, I arrived at a small cafe. I walked in and asked to use their phone. I used it to call the police and I told them everything about my situation. They said they would come to pick me up in a few minutes. The officer who picked me up was a guy named Officer Mike, he was very sympathetic. He drove me to the police department to be questioned. They took me to a private room and sat me in front of a desk. Officer Mike came in and ask me questions about my experience. When we were done with the interview, he brought me back to the main lobby to wait for my mom.

“Where is my daughter!?” a familiar voice spoke.

“Mom?” I murmured.

“Jordan? Is that you?” she wondered.

I turned the corner of the waiting room to find her standing by the front desk. She must’ve sprained or broke her arm because she had a sling on. We embraced and hugged for what seemed to last forever. We both started bawling in each other’s arms.

“I’m so glad you’re safe!” she cried. “I don’t know what I would’ve done if something tragic would’ve happened to you,” she sniffed.

She told me that when I went missing, she suspected it was her sister, Mary. She said that Mary has always been jealous of her and has had multiple failed attempts to try and abduct me. The police searched her house, but found it empty because she brought me to a new location. I was overwhelmed with information and I just wanted to go home. Although, I didn’t really feel safe anywhere at this point.

The police tracked Mary down and arrested her. She was locked up for 15 years. I was very fortunate to escape from Mary in such a short amount of time because I know that others have been kept away from their families for years.
