Her lover was pronounced dead.
She could not weep for no one knew of their relations.
She could not smile in celebration of her lover's life because the grieving people would think her odd.
She could not stand silent for it would be rude.
The only option was to leave.
So instead of granting herself one last glance at her lover's face, she left.
Never to see her lover's thin lips and painted rosy cheeks again.
Walking from the church she held her tears and forbid them from falling. She kept herself from looking back and allowed her lover to be buried with all of her grace and reputation of being a model woman to begin an unscathed, eternal slumber.

The first line came to me when I tried to take a nap one day. In my mind I thought it would be the ending line for a story. But as I tried to come up with a story to tack it on the end of I couldn't think of anything. When I went to go write on my typewriter I typed that line and decided that it wasn't an ending line but rather a beginning and went from there.
