Road Side
I dragged the still warm body to the side of the road. The crisp air nipped at my ears, and the trees swayed in the wind like ghosts. I hurriedly finished hiding the corpse and started to walk back to my car. As I slumped into the driver’s seat the moon shone blindingly through the side mirror. I could make out the shadow of a man coming near me. Great, I exclaimed to myself, someone had seen me. I hopped out of the car and started towards the dark figure standing before me.
“Look, I don’t want any trouble. I need a small favor, that’s all.” The man’s voice was deep and coarse.
“What favor do you want from me?”
“I need a man dead and you seem like the right person for the job.”
“I ain’t no hitman. I kill for pleasure, not for other people.”
“I thought you could do me a little favor...Maybe I could add in some cash?”
“Yeah...no!” I pulled the pistol out from under my shirt. A loud bang rang out across the ravine. “There goes getting home early.”
I disposed of the second body and started to head home. That was one more person than I wanted to kill this week, but I guess it doesn’t matter. It’s just a hobby.
