Crash
Have you ever been in a car accident? It is a moment of one hundred percent pure terror. It all happened so fast that I did not know what was happening. Smoke hit my face like a cannon. My entire body felt numb. I started to fade away. I was wondering if I was going to live another day.
It all started on a completely normal day. My mom and I were on our way to the store to buy some school supplies. The ride to the store was fine, nothing out of the normal. The store was as busy as a bee hive. We got all of our supplies that we needed and we were ready to leave. It all happened on the ride back home. We saw the driver inching forward, and both of us started to freeze. The single thirty short seconds that would change my life forever.
Immediately my mom and I were able to notice that the driver was intoxicated. First the automobile swerved and hit a mailbox. After being hit by the car, the mailbox became a pancake lying on the side of the road. We see the car inching forward, the atmosphere thinned and there was silence in the air. The car was coming and my body immediately froze. I was so scared that I became a statue. Then, in the blink of an eye, the two cars collided. Now it is a race against time to get out the car.
The moment that my mom and I were hit we were sent into a ditch. The car that hit us only spun around like a merry-go-round. Luckily some generous people stopped to help us. I was able to escape out of the back door of the vehicle. My mom, on the other hand, was not as lucky. The people that stopped to help us had to us a crowbar to rupture the door to let my mom escape. We both were able to get out of the steel death trap.
After we were out an ambulance came to take us to the hospital. We were strapped to boards and taken away. Once we got there the doctor performed many agonizing tests. From internal to chest ex-rays, we had the entire staff performing tests on us. After all of the tests were taken we got the doctor’s results. I had some minor internal damage. My mom had some more serious damage done to here. Her foot had suffered post traumatic arthritis. Now when she walks, my mom will fell pain. On some days it is not bad, but on others it is painful.
Then we were bed ridden for about three weeks. The slowest three weeks of my life. Once we were able to walk we went to the junkyard to see our car. We knew it was totaled, but we wanted to see how bad it really was. The car looked like a slinky that did not pop back out. The man in charge of the yard said he was amazed that some one was able to come out of that car alive.
Then my mom and I were sure that the women that hit us was going to be in the dog house. Well she was not; all she got was a warning. With that lady a warning never works. We were told that she was in three drunken driving accidents before this one. Some how she never got into much trouble at all, she was a real con artist.
There it was a single moment that changed my life. It was all because a woman was stupid enough to driver while drunk. The idea that I could have died is now inscribed into my mind forever. All of these memories, all of them were created in one moment, and by one person.
